A collection taken up at the end of
the concert on 24th Nov 2007 raised almost £1,000 for
ellie's haven at Looe, a holiday haven for children with life
limiting conditions and long term illnesses.
The church was packed out as the choir and special guest
soloists Helen Palmer on violin and our own Kenneth Pethick on
the organ delighted the audience with a variety of music.
Also at only 15 years of age and making his debut on drums was
one of our Text Club members.
Helen played John Ireland's Berceuse, Vivaldi's Allegro, Chanson
de Matin by Elgar and Bohm's Bolero. While Ken played the
Radtzky March by Strauss. Roger Partridge as Chairman kept
everyone laughing as he told jokes (many about Methodist
Ministers!) and short stories.
Some of the music sung by the choir were excerpts from The Sound
of Music and Les Miserables, Something Special, He's my Saviour,
Ol' Man River, Amazing Love and You'll Never Walk Alone.
The Proms commenced with Ken playing Pomp & Circumstance and the
Military March No 1 (Land of Hope and Glory) with the
audience taking part cheering, bobbing and waving their flags
(supplied at the door) and ending with everyone singing
Jerusalem!
