Operation Sunshine started in 1981 to aid the refugees from the civil war in Mozambique, Operation Sunshine has now sent 20 and 40ft ship containers to thirteen countries mainly in Africa, but also to the Kurds in Turkey and to Armenia, Romania and Kosova.
The headquarters of Operation Sunshine is at Folkestone, but there has been a branch in Tavistock for 23 years.  During the last four years, we have sent at least twelve ship containers to Africa, two of which were 40 feet long.  In the last year alone, Operation Sunshine has provided clothing, food, school furniture and educational and craft equipment, medical supplies, tools and building materials to the sick, poor and destitute in Northern Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Rwanda.
Those we have helped have included 1.5 million refugees from the fighting in Rwanda and Burundi, the Liteta Leper Colony and Crisis Nursery in Zambia, the Canaan School for abused children and other orphanages caring for babies and small children who have been abandoned either through poverty or because they have been orphaned by the AIDS virus.  If you would like to help or find out more please click on the link above to open their website.
Friday morning prayer & coffee there is a prayer meeting at 10.00am with a short Communion Service at this time, on the the first Friday of each month.  Why not come along and join us?  The format is very relaxed, consisting usually of a Bible reading, leading to a brief discussion, followed by a time of open prayer.  You are as welcome to come and say nothing as to come and participate actively - so why not give it a try? Then stay for coffee, biscuits and a chat.

Coffee is served after the morning service on the LAST Sunday of each month.  It is hoped as many as are able will stay for a short while and continue the fellowship of the earlier part of the morning.
There are coffee mornings held at St Dominic (second Monday of each month), Stoke Climsland (first Wednesday of each month, but check venue locally) and Tamar Valley, (check dates locally).

The Circuit meetings and Church Councils have agreed that the churches in our circuit should become Fair Trade churches.  This means that we use fairly traded tea, coffee etc at all our meetings, lunches, coffee mornings and other events. Callington is trying to gain Fair Trade status, whereby a number of local shops, businesses, community groups and churches use Fair Trade products, which can be purchased at the Cornerstone shop in Fore Street and the Co-op in New Road.

'Toddle In' is about providing a venue where parents/carers, and the under 5s can meet.  We provide a fruit snack mid morning for children and a tea/coffee for mums/carers.  If during school holidays you have another child you would like to bring along, please mention it to any of the helpers but we would advise that they bring along something to occupy themselves with.  All staff and helpers have been CRB checked.
Our aim is to provide a relaxed, caring atmosphere where parents/carers and little children can feel welcome.
