| Our Links | Our lessons are taken from a new set of challenging books for both the Juniors and Text Club from an interdenominational publishing group called 'Go teach'. We adopt a very varied and informal way of teaching the Christian message to our children. All our helpers and teachers are CRB checked. | ||

| Callington Town | Some of the things we did during our Summer holidays 2009 The Summer Fete was a great success, raising £958.21 for Operation Sunshine. We all enjoyed working with the puppets and puppeteers from Liskeard and the drums workshop 'Speaking in Drums' led by Andrew Nicholson, the Cornwall Methodist District Youth Enabler, when everybody had a chance to keep to the beat! Our fun Summer programme began 26th July with a Music Taster morning, where the children (and some adults!) were able to try out a number of different instruments - acoustic guitar, violin, drums, electric bass, 'cello and a piano accordion. Then continued on 2nd August when we enjoyed African drumming with Andrew at St Ann's Chapel on the djembe and bougarabou in the company of Hawkeye the cat! We were also able to look at "Goodies from the Gambia" - an ethically traded range of clothes, furnishings and jewellery. The following week was beautifully sunny for our trip to Trecanna Nursery to see hundreds of South African plants which grow in abundance in the wild. They made a wonderful show of colour, in cluding crocosmias and eucomis. We also tried South African dishes of springbok and game sausage (rather chewy!), banana cake and African doughnuts. Part of the entry charge went to Sentebale, a charity helping orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho in Africa. On 16th August, we set our creative juices running at our Cookery and Craft session when we made scrummy chocolate kisses, nature cards and quilling cards and decorated stones. A small group went to Sterts Theatre to see one of our members perform in 'Children of Eden' a musical based on Noah. The Sleepover took over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd August we enjoyed games (unfortunately not in the field, because of damp weather) such as ballon volley ball and badminton. We made pizzas and had them for our tea. At 7.15pm we went on our 'mystery' trip, to Cotehele House where we walked through the gardens and watched bats. We saw the flooded quay (due to exceptionally high tides) which meant the road we planned to travel on was temporarily impassable. When we got back more games were played whilst some of the adults watched 'Mamma Mia'. After our sleepover (not much sleep for some!) we had a 'Big Breakfast' and then tried our hand at French knitting, pavement art and created a 'talking wall' of pictures. Our final week of the Summer activities was billed as a "Summer stroll at Cotehele", but unfortunately there wasn't much sun involved - rather a heavy drizzle - but we enjoyed getting together outside and spending time together!! | ||

Junior Church Report 2008/09 It's been another busy year for the Junior Church. Numbers have remained steady, but we always look forward to welcoming new members. Traditional distribution of daffodils to all the ladies in the congregation at the close of our Mothering Sunday Service. The 'JUST4KIDZ' team worked hard to provide both an Easter and Christmas workshop, which were well attended and great fun, opening up activities and fellowship to the wider community. We had another excellent Summer programme including cookery, games, music, mini Olympics, sleepover, picnic, chill-out and a trip to the theatre. It was good to share with others from Tamar Valley Church and St Mary's Church. Our Harvest gifts were again distributed to the sick and elderly around the town, which was much appreciated. Rev. Sue Hill from Liskeard led our Celebration Sunday service centred on journeying and this was followed with an excellent meal prepared by the teachers, with proceeds in aid of Shelterbox. Some Junior Church members took part again in the sponsored 'Splashout' swim for Action for Children (formerly NCH), raising much needed funds for the charity. Our JMA collectors continue faithfully and were awarded their annual badges. The Toy Service was again very well supported, with plenty of gifts and we had a good Christingle service which raised money for the charity 'CHICKS'. | ||
