Choir

Every Sunday the choir has continued to contribute to Sunday morning worship by singing an introit and leading hymns.

During the past year we have continued to meet for Friday evening practices as and when required.  We are, as ever, in need of more male singers.  However, we do appreciate the kind words of encouragement and support which we receive as we endeavour to play our part within our church family and for our Lord

CONCERT 24th November 2007 Proms, Praise and Popular Songs presented by CALLINGTON  & GUNNISLAKE METHODIST CIRCUIT CHOIR and FRIENDS in aid of Ellie's Haven
Ellie's Haven Cornwall, a special place for special children.
A collection taken up at the end of the concert raised almost £1,000  for ellie's haven at Looe, a holiday haven for children with life limiting conditions and long term illnesses, 24th Nov 2007.
The church was packed out as the choir and special guest soloists Helen Palmer on violin and our own Kenneth Pethick on the organ  delighted the audience with a variety of music.
Helen played John Ireland's Berceuse, Vivaldi's Allegro, Chanson de Matin by Elgar and Bohm's Bolero. While Ken played the Radtzky March by Strauss. Roger Partridge as Chairman kept everyone laughing as he told jokes (many about Methodist Ministers!) and short stories.
Some of the music sung by the choir were excerpts from The Sound of Music and Les Miserables, Something Special, He's my Saviour, Ol' Man River, Amazing Love and You'll Never Walk Alone.
The Proms commenced with Ken playing Pomp & Circumstance and the Military March No 1 (Land of Hope and Glory) with the  audience taking part cheering, bobbing and waving their flags (supplied at the door) and ending with everyone singing Jerusalem!
Choir Report 2007     The past year has been a busy one for the Choir.  Once again the highlights of the year have been the Maundy Thursday Communion Service and the Christmas Carol Service when the choir played a major part in worship.  During the year we also contributed by singing special items at the following services: David Cole, Easter Sunday, Songs of Praise, Easter Offering at Stoke Climsland, Local Preachers Recognition at St Dominick, Farewell Service for Howard and Anne Curnow and the Harvest Festival.

We let our hair down and performed a comic song for the Gift Day Concert, acted as hosts for a Christmas Concert given by Celtic Voices, sang carols to a large and appreciative gathering at Cotehele House and enjoyed a Christmas Dinner and Beetle Drive at Trethorne.

During the summer many of our members had the opportunity to join with singers from all over the county to form the Cornwall Methodist District Choir.  We took part in the Charles Wesley 300th Anniversary Celebration which was due to take place at Gwennap Pit, but due to inclement weather, was held at Redruth Methodist Church.  We hired a coach and were joined by Church and Circuit friends.

In September the district Choir joined together again in Truro Methodist Church to record a CD of favourite hymns, we were pleased to support Ken who played a large part in the recording - both as organist and conductor.  A most enjoyable day and the CD has been selling like hot cakes ever since!

We have been pleased to welcome a new member into our alto section and hope she will enjoy  her time with us.
We continue to meet for practice on Friday evenings as and when necessary; and we also play our part in the morning worship each Sunday, both in leading the hymns and singing an introit.

As we look back over the year, we thank Ken for his work as both Choirmaster and Organist and we pray that we may all be able to serve this our Church during the coming year by lifting our voices to the praise and glory of our Lord.
